An MRI (or magnetic resonance imaging) scan is a test performed by trained medical professional, including radiologists and Neuroradiologists. The test is used to produce images of internal body structures through the use of magnetism, radio waves and computer. A traditional MRI is a tube shaped machine surrounded by a circular magnet. The patient is placed inside of the tube and the scanner creates a strong magnetic field. Images from the scan are processed and stored on a computer for study.
Upon which body parts could a patient undergo an MRI?
Head, Spine, Chest, Abdomen, Pelvis, Bones, Joints, Blood Vessels
Many injuries that are shown on MRI scans can be traumatic in nature.
How do the results of my X-ray get determined?
An MRI is often reviewed by a radiologist and/or a neuroradiologist who interprets the scan and reports his findings to the doctor who prescribed the test. Your doctor will make a final diagnosis.
In What Types of Cases are MRIs Often Used?
MRI tests can be used in all types of injury cases. These include, but are not limited to:
- Motorcycle Accidents
- Car Accidents
- Mass Transit Accidents (SEPTA, NJ Transit, and other common carriers)
- Truck and Tractor Trailer Accidents
- Dog Bites
- Nursing Home Neglect & Elder Abuse
Are X-rays often used for litigation or lawsuit purposes?
Yes. Whenever an MRI is taken, your attorney will want to know the results of the test. Many times, an MRI will be able to reveal significant structural injuries to the spine. These injuries can include fractures, herniations, contusions, and more. If the injuries are causally related to the traumatic event, then a claim can be made against the defendant’s insurance company.
